[TZGISUG] SHAPEFILES

[Aloyce Kaliba]

 Can someone recommend individual contact at TAMISEMI or  National  Bureau of Statistics with these shapefiles.

 I think Robert's suggestion is probably as good as any, but I am not convinced any such master data set exists. I have seen multiple conflicting but nonetheless official government maps of the village boundaries in the same area. Also data storage was often only on individuals' computers, so I fear a lot of data goes missing (and indeed could well be a cause of the inconsistent maps), but maybe that has improved in recent years.

   The most decent publicly available data  set for streets/roads is  OpenStreetMap. If you are not  happy with the quality/detail you could  always add data there  yourself :-) 
 
 Download OpenStreetMap  data here:
 
 http://download.geofabrik.de/africa/tanzania.html
 
 Depending on your purposes  and your position you could get  access to governmental  data. You would then have to write  a letter to the relevant authorities. For Cadastral data I would  contact Johnson Kashaija at  the Ministry of Lands  Housing and Urban Settlement  Development. His email is johnsebby2006 (at) yahoo.com
