[TZGISUG] SHAPEFILES

Hi everyone,
we have made a digital map for the Geological Survey of Tanzania (GST) (http://www.gmis-tanzania.com). Districts are missing for now but on the next update they will be in it. Let me know what you think about the map and the data ?

In Tanzania, which institution may have a detailed map/maps (region/district levels) that shows location of all villages in Tanzania?

You may check with GIS Unit of Arusha City Council. They have the data though not in an open source.

The most decent publicly available data set for streets/roads is OpenStreetMap. If you are not happy with the quality/detail you could always add data there yourself :-)

Download OpenStreetMap data here:

http://download.geofabrik.de/africa/tanzania.html

Depending on your purposes and your position you could get access to governmental data. You would then have to write a letter to the relevant authorities. For Cadastral data I would contact Johnson Kashaija at the Ministry of Lands Housing and Urban Settlement Development. His email is johnsebby2006 (at) yahoo.com
