Dear Mollel, GIS'ers

The agroecological zone data from ARI is indeed derived from SOTERSAF.
Improved soils data (profiles and MODIS-derived grids) are available from
AfSIS:
http://www.africasoils.net/data/legacyprofile
http://www.isric.org/data/soil-property-maps-africa-1-km

For climate data, there are many products available. I've compiled a list
of these (and other free GIS data) on our website:
http://www.york.ac.uk/environment/research/kite/links/#tab-2

Best wishes
Phil
