Employment advertisementof a PhD position available at the Department of Plant Ecology and Ecosystems Research (Georg August University Göttingen, Germany) to be filled September 1, 2013. The salary will be according to E13 TV-L (65% of postdoc salary) for the limited duration of 3 years.
The main research focus shall be the ecology of tropical tree species and forests. The study is part of the interdisciplinary research group 'Kilimanjaro ecosystems under global change: Linking biodiversity, biotic interactions and biogeochemical ecosystem processes [KiLi]' FOR 1246 granted by the German Research Foundation.
Major research topics are (i) the quantification of major components of the above- and belowground net primary production, and water use efficiency of trees in forest ecosystems differing in altitude and disturbance degree, (ii) the analysis of tree fine root biomass and longevity, and (iii) investigation of the C flux to the soil via leaf and fine root litter decomposition. The applicant's methodological background should be either in one or more of the following areas: plant ecophysiology, experimental plant ecology, forest ecology, ecosystem research, climate change research, soil ecology. We seek for a person with excellent diploma or MSc degree in biology, forest sciences, soil or environmental sciences together with adequate physical prerequisites for a successful performance of the project in Tanzania.
