Very many thanks to Claudia Capitani and Mike Shand for their quick and helpful replies; question resolved, and I expect this’ll be useful for others too.

All the best –

Nick.

Dear Nick,

you are right, there's no unique code and names are repeated and spelt differently in vectors and published result table.

It took me a lot of effort, and manual checking to do it.

I even adjusted the raster layer from World pop so that it represents the total population 2012 following the data distribution of the wards. Since the Worldpop and the Wards shape have different borders (some part of Rufiji delta are not mapped in the vectors for example), I kept the Worldpop pixel as they were and I redistributed the population according to the nearest ward when pixel were not covered by the ward. This also took a while and manual checking, probably I missed something but it is quite good.

You can find everything at my dropbox folder. My only request is if you find any mistake, please let me know, any help in refining this is very welcome.

Best wishes,

Claudia

Dear All –

I’m doing some mapping for Red Cross, who are helping in the response to the ongoing cholera outbreak.

I wondered if anyone might already have joined the 2012 census results to the NBS ward shapefile <http://www.nbs.go.tz/nbstz/index.php/english/statistics-by-subject/population-and-housing-census> please? Is this available? It’s not a simple join, as the census data aren’t geocoded, and some ward names are repeated in different regions, so I didn’t want to re-do the work if it’s already done.

Also, I wondered if anyone knows of geocoded school locations please?

For health facilities, I’m looking at: http://opendata.go.tz/dataset/list-of-health-facilities-with-geographical-location

 Many thanks,

Nick.
