I have made for me a list of forum software. For me the absolute must
features are:
Syncronizing a mailinglist/news server with the forum, and threaded view.
Possible candidates are:
fudforum
MyBB
Phorum
PunBB/FluxBB

Compared to a news/mail reader any forum software is primitive crap.
