The Conservation Resource Centre will be putting on a series of science skills workshops before and after the TAWIRI Scientific Conference in late November & early December 2013. CRC courses are designed to give you immediately-useful skills that you can walk away feeling confident with!

The last CRC Skills Workshops in 2011 were extremely well-received, and we are repeating a similar set of courses with the addition of an advanced R course.

Courses include:
Introduction to mapping with QGIS: a free and open-source application, QGIS is an excellent way to produce maps and analyse data. 3 day course, 28-30 Nov.
Distance Sampling: a survey method increasingly widely used in wildlife studies, 25-30 Nov:
Introduction (3 days, suitable for field researchers who wish to collect data);
Analysis & survey design (3 days, suitable for those who wish to analyse and design surveys).
Introduction to statistics with R: another free, open-source application, R is the statistics package which has become the choice of many (if not most) academics and researchers. 5 day course, 9-13 December.
Spatial analysis with R: for those with R skills, this 2-day course introduces students to analytical methods in R for mapping and spatial analysis.
Courses cost $75 per day but some limited scholarship positions are available. The CRC is supported mainly by its members and the local community, and in part by the Reid Park Zoo (Tucson, AZ) and has received seed support for these workshops from the Chile to Kili educational project (GO ELVIS!)

See the TZCRC website (www.tzcrc.org) to learn more and use the online registration page to sign up.
